Petrol Powered Log Splitters Follow

We are sure you are looking forward to creating your own firewood to warm you and yours this winter and for many winters to come.

We want to ensure that you get the maximum use and efficiency out of your log splitter on every use and so we created this guide to answer your questions - hopefully before you even think of them. This should save you time and allow you to use your petrol log splitter safely and productively from the word go.

We are sure this guide it will help you operate your log splitter with confidence.

 General Tips On Log Splitting

  • It is always important, before you start splitting, to have a good look at the log for knots and flaws or twisted grains that can make splitting difficult.
  • Seasoned wood is much easier to split and makes better firewood.
  • Wood from conifers, like pine, is generally softer and frequently less knotty.
  • To save time you could try using a four-way splitter, this is an additional metal wedge that sits between the log and the log splitter’s ram, allowing you to split larger pieces of wood into to smaller logs in one move, saving time and effort. It can be used to create kindling.

 Maintenance

  • Fuel: Modern fuel contains ethanol, which absorbs moisture and causes the fuel to deteriorate in as little as 30 days, causing damage and starting issues if left in the tank. Our suggested solution is either to drain the tank if are going to leave it for a while, e.g. storage in the off-season. When you are using it, we recommend adding fuel stabilising additive to all fuel before filling up your tank.

Oil : Regular oil changes protect your engine damage and excessive wear make sure you refer to your ‘Engine’ manual regarding schedules for regular oil changes.

Servicing: Don’t forget that Annual Servicing is a recommended by the manufacturers and is a requirement if you want to extend the guarantee beyond the first year. Make sure you speak to your dealer about this, as, for example, an out of tune engine can result in reduced performance.

 Health & Safety

  • It is advisable to wear safety goggles when using your log splitter to avoid potential injury from flying splinters. A pair of heavy work boots is also advisable.
  • Make sure you place your log splitter on a steady and solid surface before using.
  • Keep any other persons a good distance away while you are operating the splitter.
  • Make sure you keep your hands clear of the machine during operation and always use the hand guards where fitted.
  • Keep hands clear of cracks in logs as these are often unstable and can close on your fingers.

Finally, we hope you enjoy, or continue to enjoy, using your log splitter and if you have problems or issues we haven't covered, don’t hesitate to contact us on… technicalsupport@mowdirect.co.uk or leave a comment at the end of this page.
