All petrol hedgetrimmers have two-stroke engines, so it pays to understand a little about them. 
 
Once you have become accustomed to their quirks, Two-stroke engines are relatively simple, and are much easier to maintain than four-stroke engines. There are fewer parts to go wrong and they are known for delivering a high power to weight ratio, making them ideal for this sort of power tool.

2-stroke engines operate on a mix of oil and fuel (on a ratio of roughly 25:1 to 50:1 (Petrol to oil) always consult your manual for specific manufacturers instructions.
